Profile
Mr. Weir is qualified as a solicitor in Hong Kong and England and Wales and has been a licensed barrister, solicitor and notary public in Canada since 1978.
Mr. Weir established Weir and Associates more than 40 years ago in 1985, with head offices in Hong Kong. He graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with two degrees: Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Law. He was admitted as a Solicitor in both England and Wales and in Hong Kong in 1992 and has since been called in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario, Canada.
He is certified as an Investment Advisor – Responsible Officer and deemed a Fit and Proper Person by the Securities and Futures Commission Hong Kong since 1989.
Mr. Weir currently practices in commercial, property and banking law with an emphasis on tax, trusts and pensions. Mr. Weir is an active member of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, The Canadian Chamber of Commerce, and The Law Society of Hong Kong.
He is also Hong Kong’s national president of the World Jurist Association. In addition to acting as a legal advisor for numerous corporations and associations in Hong Kong and abroad, he also sits on the Insurance Law Committee of The Law Society of Hong Kong and has been invited to join various round tables and committees. He has lectured in both Canada and Hong Kong at university level. He has served as an appointee of The Law Society of Hong Kong to numerous Provisional Boards.
In addition to his legal career, Mr. Weir has served as Director of Listed Public Companies in Hong Kong and North America as well as private companies and has taken up advisory and directorship roles for both local and international firms.
